Will Learning How To Detox The Body Enhance Your Well Being
Ever since my teen years I’ve always been in pretty good health. I don’t get ill, and colds and viruses never seem to latch on to me - or certainly not that lasted more than half a day or so. So it was completely out of the blue when I began feeling constantly tired and lethargic, and I was even finding it hard to get up in the morning. Over the course of about 12 months I’d seen my doctor many times and had all the tests he threw at me, but they all came back negatve.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I bumped into a old friend one day who recommended I should look into doing a detox, and generally learning about how to detox and understand the impact of toxins on my health. It seemed a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about it, so figured it was a worthy investment of my time to at least check it out, and why so many alternative and complementary health practitioners recommend following a detox diet and recommend starting with the 7 day detox diet so avidly.
She also hinted to me to try a relaxing foot detox. I have a foot spa two or three times a week now, if I have the time, but if you don’t have one of those, the detox foot patches can do just as good a job - but with the patches you don’t get a relaxing foot massage at the same time
This is what I learnt about detoxing your body.
Herbal teas and water and plenty of both
Drinking plenty of fluid is absolutely vital while you are following a detox diet because it will help purge excessive toxins from your body. Drinking plenty of water also has other health benefits like promoting regular bowel movements, improves concentration, and helps reduce the signs of aging by plumping up your skin. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day (about 2 liters), although you will need more in hot weather or on days when you are exercising.
As a guideline, aim to drink an extra half liter of water for every hour you exercise. Tap water which has been filtered to remove the chlorine and impurities is the best option. Ideally drink water that is at room temperature. Herbal teas are a great alternative in helping your reach your daily quote - preferably loose leaf rather than tea bags. Green tea, horsetail, camomile and roibosch (or redbush) in particular are great choices as their essential oils help the detox process. Roibosch (Redbush) tea is especially healthy as it is rich in antioxidants.
Is Organic Better
You do not need to switch to a totally organic diet on a detox diet, especially as the cost can be very high, but a little organic produce will go a long way to getting you started.
Don’t panic if you can’t find organic foods in your area. Concentrating on eating fresh (and ideally raw) fruit and veg is the main point regardless of them being organic or not, rather than not get enough of them. Nonetheless, there’s a lot of health benefits to eating organic food on a healthy detox diet.
Artificial fertilizers and pesticides are banned from production of organic foods, and therefore they are much healthier being free from toxins and man made chemicals. The practice of organic farming is very contentious due to the fact that there is mounting evidence that the accumulation of man made fertilizers and pesticides overtime may cause health problems in the future.
Organic foods are subject to a lot less processing. That means they contain no hydrogenated fats, artificial additives, preservatives or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Certain organic foods taste better and have more flavor.
