How Celeberties Colon Cleanse to Lose Weight

Whenever someone on Oprah recommends something, it’s going to get a lot of attention. Even a colon cleansing technique can become popular.  The one mentioned on Oprah it called the Master Cleanse or the Lemonade Diet..

Ever since Beyonce revealed that she prepared for her role in Dreamgirls using this cleanse and lost twenty pounds the master cleanse has been popular.

Some of the claimed benefits of the Lemonade Diet seem pretty outlandish. Beyond weight loss, advocates claim it increases energy, clarifies thinking, alleviates many chronic health problems (for example arthritis) – in short good for just about everything.

Here’s brief evaluation.

To begin celebrities didn’t invent the Lemonade Diet.  That credit goes to Stanley Burroughs, who was an early advocate of natural health methods, in a little book he published in 1976 called The Master Cleanser.

This cleanse should probably be called a fast rather than a diet.   The main feature of the diet is having at least eight glasses a day of dilute lemonade sweetened with a little grade B maple syrup with a pinch of Cayenne pepper added.

If you want to give it a try, here’s the recipe for the lemonade:

* 8oz water
* Juice of ½ lemon
* 2 tbsp organic maple syrup
* 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Sip at least eight glasses of that mixture over the course of the day. 

Most proponents of the diet also suggest non-caffeinated herbal tea while you’re on the diet.

Because it is very calorie and nutrient deficient I don’t suggest using the master cleanse for the full 10 days. Some people recommend even longer periods.

Realize that with so few calories much of the weight loss after the first couple of days will be muscle.

Putting aside the calorie restriction, the fact is that the master cleanse is an effective form of colon cleansing. This is important because so much of of diet is less than pure these days.

It not only improve the function of the GI tract and up overall energy, but also allows the liver to detoxify.
