Doing A Body Cleanse: Tips For Newbies

Magazines and television programs have given a lot of coverage on the benefits, and different methods, of doing a body cleanse detox. There is so much information about it in the media; it’s really difficult to sort out what you should do. Which method is best? What will you need and how do you prepare? What can you expect? For every question there are literally thousands of answers.

Luckily, it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Your body is already doing it! The body naturally, and continually, cleanses itself of toxins. All you need to do is help it along a bit. There’s no great need for fasting, fancy equipment or pills. You just need to give your system a break and let it do its job.

The first thing to understand is where the toxins are coming from and how they get in your system. We absorb most toxins from our environment. Air particulates, chemicals in our food, cleaning solutions, even lotion! Chemicals are everywhere. Toxins can build up inside or bodies if our organs cannot process and eliminate them faster than we are taking them in.

When these toxins build up, they can be very dangerous. They can lead to all sorts of chronic medical problems, from everything to fatigue to serious heart problems. This is why it is actually important to do a body cleanse. If you can, you should actually try to make it part of your lifestyle rather than an occasional event.

Essentially, all you need to do is keep the demands on your digestive organs to a minimum. You can do this by eating easy-to-digest foods that are high in water content (such as fruits and vegetables). Proteins such as dairy, meat, seafood, beans, nuts and eggs take more work for the body to digest, which means they create a more demand on your organs. More demand on your organs means they have less time to eliminate those toxins from your system. Fats also are difficult to digest. So you should stock up on your favorite fruits and veggies. You can eat as much as you like, just remember that overeating can slow down your ability to flush toxins.

The second thing to add to your body cleanse is water. Have as much as you can drink. Filtered tap water is fine ‘ most filters are effective in removing the majority of toxins from the water. You can also enjoy tea (iced or hot) as long as you do not add sugar or cream. Water will simply help flush your system and make sure your organs are fully hydrated so they can work at their highest capacity.

Technically, you should avoid all stimulants like caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. The majority of people cannot give these up. Do what you can. If you are planning on eliminating any or all of these for the period of your cleansing, give yourself a week or so to taper off so you do not experience severe withdrawal symptoms. If you cannot eliminate these things, do not despair! By drinking more water and sticking to fresh fruit and vegetables you will still get cleansing benefits. Do not stop taking prescribed medication for any reason.

It really is that simple. Be easy on your system and drink lots of water. If you plan to do a full body cleanse for more than a week or two, make sure you research how vegans get adequate protein. If you are pregnant or have serious health conditions, definitely consult with your physician first. You may suffer a little withdraw from your sugary, fatty favorite foods, and you may spend more time in the bathroom, but your body will definitely thank you for the detox.
