Detox dieting

Detox is an abbreviated form of the term detoxification, and is the term used to describe the body’s natural toxin elimination process. A detox helps the body to clear up any build up of these toxins, allowing you to have more energy and improving general wellbeing, enabling you to better manage any future toxin removal.

A detox diet means cutting out the bad foods in your diet an increasing your intake of fresh, organic food and water so that your body is given the correct amount of vitamins and nutrients. To help kick start a sluggish system and help your body speed up its natural waste elimination process you should add exercise. Detox dieting plans are usually short-term generally lasting anywhere from two days to a month. Once your detox program is complete you should adopt some of the healthy lifestyle on a permanent basis as it will be beneficial to your overall health rendering future detox unnecessary.

If you are trying a detox diet for the first time, here are a few tips to help you out.

Avoid caffeine! Instead try a cup of hot water with a squeeze of lemon. It will take some getting used to, but this zingy drink will encourage clearer skin and get your whole system started each morning.

Drink lots and lots of water. We all know we should be drinking eight glasses of water every day, but how many of us actually do?

If it’s possible - go organic! All the artificial additives and pesticides that are used in certain non-organic foods is something your body can do without.

As far as vegetables are concerned - the greener and leafier, the better! If you cook your vegetables, steam them for maximum vitamin retention.

Don’t drink alcohol or smoke.

Try to stay away from refined and processed foods and sugar.

The bottom line is to remove alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and processed food as well as refined food, bad fats and sugar from your diet. Not only will your shape change, but it is possible your mental agility may too.
